Thanks to the National Park state that distinguishes Los Roques, the amount of fishes living in its waters increased considerably and therefore, the practice of the sport fishing and its distinctive catch and release was enormously benefit.

Los Roques Archipelago is considered the second most important location in the world (led by Christmas Island) for macabí fishing, known also as mouse fish, gray ghost or bonefish. Although it is a paradise for flyfishing, spining and bait cast doesn’t fall behind.

This atoll’s islands represents an ideal habitat for this extraordinarily fast fish and its fishing is good throughout the year, finding fishes of two to three kilograms and in June to December its even better. In some cases, it is possible to expect 30 or more captures in short periods of time. Until now, the greatest macabí captured in Los Roques measured 80 centimeters and was captured by a New Jersey (United States) tourist.

Other attractive species for sportfishing and that also thrive in the Archipelago are permits, tarpon (between 80 and up to 100 pounds) and snook of 20 pounds; barracuda for those who prefer trolling and in smaller scale, but not less attractive are other varieties of reef fish.

In the case a sport fisherman needs to rent equipment he will have access to Penn International and Schimano brands. On the other hand, the use of any type of harpoon is completely prohibited in Los Roques.
